Under the guidance of producer, Suzi Dietz, Sam’s best-selling book was developed into the one-man show, “HAM: A Musical Memoir,” (directed by Billy Porter,) which played to resounding success in New York and then in Los Angeles (directed by Ken Sawyer), and won three prestigious Ovation Awards for Best Musical, Best Actor, and Best Musical Direction (for long-time colleague, Todd Schroeder). HAM was then filmed (directed by Andrew Putschoegl) and debuted in Laemmle Theatres. HAM is now in wide release on most streaming platforms.

“When Sam asked me to help him develop his critically acclaimed memoir into a musical theater piece, I jumped at the chance to work with my friend of 25 years.  Sam is a tsunami of talent and the work we did in New York resulted in a production that showcased all of Sam’s extraordinary talents—as a writer, songwriter, actor, and of course, that voice! It got phenomenal reviews and went on to play Los Angeles in an award-winning production directed by Ken Sawyer. Now it’s a stunning film that reveals Sam Harris as one of the great showmen who can have you in hysterics one moment and break your heart the next. Ham is more than Sam’s personal story. Its message is universal. It is hilarious, it is raw, it is inspirational, and above all, it is human.” – Billy Porter

“Harris shies away from nothing. . .unabashed honesty. A solo work for anyone who has dared—or dreamed—to color outside the lines.” (Broadway Blog)

“A captivating confessional. Redoubtable writer-performer Sam Harris deftly shares his trek from Sand Springs, Okla., to Hollywood, Broadway and beyond. Harris has an unwavering specificity and humor -- even his house-hushing account of a teenage suicide attempt is underpinned with irony -- as well as his considerable knack for characterizations and a laser-beam voice, which is in marvelous estate. The show is exceptionally well-written and buoyantly entertaining. More than once, Harris stops the show cold. Ham? More like filet mignon! And this captivating performer makes this incisive confessional an unmissable experience.” (Los Angeles Times Critic’s Choice)

“Sam Harris was born to be onstage! A triple threat. This is a voice with perfect control that soars through the roof, while connecting to the lyric with a gut wrenching honesty.” (Times Square Chronicles)

“Sam Harris is the best male pop singer in the country! Everything he does comes from deep within. Ham couldn’t be more enchanting. This neo-vaudevillian stage persona is extravagant, theatrical, and, most of all, refreshingly self-effacing with playful humor. “ (Huffington Post)

“Exceptional! Funny, touching and cheerfully self-deprecating, with full-tilt renditions of songs. Harris belongs to an all but lost breed of entertainer and vaudevillian, bursting with the energy of a teenager. The darker side of Mr. Harris’s tale concerns his struggles, determination, possibilities and his eventual self-acceptance. His every move generates excitement. Mr. Harris pulls out all the stops and proves himself a winner one more time.” (New York Times)

“Harris is such a marvelously engaging, clever, storyteller that you’ll be enraptured by every word. With a fine eye for detail and actor’s expressiveness, Harris paints wonderfully vivid portraits of various episodes of his life. And then there’s that still glorious, blow-the-roof-off, remarkable singing.” (Theater Pizazz)
